Hey Michael here to bring you the birthstone for September. It is the Sapphire. It is a relative of the July birthstone which is the Ruby. It is a form of the mineral corundum, just like the Ruby. Sapphires are mined in Australia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The priests of the Middle Ages wore sapphires as protection from impure thoughts and temptations of the flesh. One of the most famous sapphires rests on the Imperial State Crown, worn by Queen Victoria in 1838. It resides in the British Crown Jewels in the Tower of London. This gem is called the St. Edwardâs Sapphire because it once belonged to Edward the Confessor, who wore the stone on a ring during his coronation in 1042. Blue Sapphires range from very light to very dark greenish or violetish blue, as well as various shades of pure blue.
